CHAPTER 19

SPIES

Feyd, the king of the endermen, surveyed his domain: The End. He ruled this land of pale yellow End Stone and tall obsidian pillars, glittering ender crystals floating atop each of the dark spires. Teleporting to the far side of the giant floating island, he smiled as he felt his HP increase. Moving carefully to the edge of the island, the enderman peered into the darkness. The void that surrounded his island seemed to go on forever, the shadowy expanse stretching out into infinity and then a bit farther.

This was their home, but also their prison. It was their punishment for helping the monsters of the Overworld after the Awakening: banishment to The End. If an enderman stayed away for too long from The End, their HP would decrease quickly. The only way they could rejuvenate their heath was to teleport across the landscape of The End. The teleportation particles that always surrounded the dark creatures would feed their health and restore their HP, but it only worked here, on this isolated island. As a result, it was their domain—their home—but it was also a cold, heartless prison.

Feyd wanted more. The evil, spite, anger, and greed that Herobrine had fused into him during his making had made Feyd greedy, always wanting more, but there was no more to be had—this was it. This fact filled Feyd with an overwhelming rage that he focused on the User-that-is-not-a-user. He knew this wasn’t Gameknight’s fault, but he didn’t care. Herobrine had also built into him a strong hatred for his enemy, and any chance to exact revenge for the Maker’s destruction was a welcome distraction.

Suddenly, an enderman appeared right next to him, the mist of teleportation particles nourishing the newcomer.

“The enemy and his companions have escaped the swamp,” the enderman reported.

“WHAT?!” Feyd screeched. “How is this possible?”

“We don’t know,” the enderman replied, taking a step away from his king to position himself out of arm’s reach. “One minute they were all there on horseback, riding through the swamp, and then they disappeared.”

“Tell me everything!”

“Well, they headed straight for the witch’s hut when they went into the swamp. Quickly, they captured the old witch that lived there.”

“Why would they want to take a witch prisoner?” Feyd asked.

“I don’t know; maybe they wanted to torture her for some reason?”

“Don’t be ridiculous,” Feyd said. “NPCs don’t know how to torture other creatures. Now users, they know how to use mindless violence for no reason at all. That is a possibility, but why?”

Feyd moved away from the edge of The End and walked toward one of the tall obsidian pillars that dotted the landscape. This one was lower than most, and he could easily see the ender crystal on the top, the intricate cube bobbing in a bath of flame.

“Continue,” the king commanded. “Tell me the rest.”

“After the NPCs captured the witch, they left the hut and moved across the swamp. But the strange thing was, the witch was riding on the back of one of the horses, right behind the little red-headed NPC.
